The Spartan women's basketball team kept busy over winter break, after the UAA season undefeated at 3-0 and improving to 9-5 overall. They return to Case Western Reserve University this semester excited to keep their run going strong.

Coach Reimer could not be more enthusiastic about the season's start, "We're excited to see our team getting better every day. Our offense has shown significant improvement over the last two weeks and we are doing some good things at the defensive end of the floor. As a result of that improvement, we're 3-0 and we're very happy about it."

Sophomore center Emily Mueller add, "Starting off with three wins definitely put us in good shape. We still have a lot of season to go though, and having the next couple games away will definitely test our physical and mental toughness. If we focus on ourselves and becoming better players, I think we'll do extremely well this conference season."

The women opened the UAA regular season with a 59-47 decisive road win against Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, Jan. 8. This win also marked the 200th career win for Coach Jennifer Reimer, who is 200-146 overall in her 15th season as a head coach. In this match-up, the Spartans were led by junior forward Erin Hollinger and sophomore guard Evy Iacono, who each scored 14 points.

The Spartans continued their winning streak in the UAA this past weekend. On Friday, Jan. 14, CWRU defeated New York University 78-67. Hollinger, 10-13 from the field, scored a career-high 25 points, while senior Caitlin Henry added 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Iacono also came up big for the Spartans, scoring 10 points and dishing out 6 assists.

On Sunday, the Spartan women defeated Brandeis University 56-38 for their third consecutive UAA win. Henry led the Spartans by scoring 11 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Hollinger added 13 points, while Erica Iafelice and Iacono each added 11 points and five rebounds. Defensively, the Spartans held Brandeis to under 40 points and forced 16 turnovers; the Judges shot a mere 27.3 percent from the field.
