Sexy vs. skanky: dos and don'ts of sex appeal

What do you picture when you think of a seductress? A plunging neckline will probably be the first thing that comes to mind. Now picture this same woman, but with her top reversed so that the plunge goes down the back. There's something about exposing the spine that makes you take a second look. It's unexpected, and there's nothing more exciting or enticing than that. The great thing about this style is that you can go as conservative or extreme as you like, while still maintaining a sex appeal no plunging neckline can ever compete with.

Sex appeal doesn't always have to be about the amount of skin you show; it can also be about the cut of something. You can never go wrong with a bustier top and skinny jeans. The tricky thing about cuts is that you need to be aware of your body. This means if you are bigger boned or a voluptuous beauty you probably shouldn't squeeze yourself into that skin-tight corset. We have all witnessed the "back muffin" and it is not a pretty sight. You can still rock these sassy cuts, but do it with caution. First of all, nothing that is laced at the front or even the back is ever considered classy by the majority. Antrhopologie's Pop of Poise halter top is a perfect blend of Moulin Rouge meets Alice in Wonderland. The floral print, flared bottom, and ruffled neckline give the cut softness, while the corset-inspired cut accentuates one of the sexiest parts of the female body, her waist.

The difference between sexy and skanky shouldn't be rocket science, but the line has been known to be crossed on more than one occasion, especially in the warmer months. So please, the much-too-short shorts, the exposed thong, the barely-there skirts, and the pleather tube dresses need to be disposed of before you ruin someone else's cocktail hour.
