          Z's return

This week brought an end to the month-long wait for the Cavs to finally resign the pride and joy of Lithuania, The Big Z, Zydrunas Ilgauskas. I'm a huge Z fan and he is, without a doubt, my favorite Cav.

Ilgauskas was traded to the Wizards on Feb. 17 in a deal that brought Antawn Jamison and Sebastian Telfair to the Cavs. Z's contract was bought out by the Wizards, but he had to wait for 30 days after the trade to return to Cleveland.

I am from Chicago, land of the slow, white, jump-shooting center, and I'm not talking about Joakim Noah. I'm talking Bill Wennington, Will Purdue, Luc Longley, and Brad Miller, but Z would still be my favorite (and the first three brought Chi-city championships!).

But how pissed off would you be if you were Z? You have been around since the Indians were good. You have stayed on even when the team was awful. You're one of the city's gems. You give them nothing but loyalty and happiness and the big brass just tosses you away like a little puppy, knowing that you will come back home when you can. I can't stand the way they have treated this guy.

Yeah, the deal brought Jamison, and we may now have a better shot at the championship, but it just doesn't feel right. Just like if the Indians were to be bought by a Russian oil magnate and suddenly became the Midwest's Yankees. Just like it doesn't feel right going into the playoffs the favorite this year (We are, by definition, the city of the underdog).

And this had to have broken the rules somehow. NBA teams are not allowed to trade a player, with the premade agreement that they will buy out their contract with the future team and come back to them after 30 days.

Are you telling me Z's buddy LeBron, didn't give him their double fisted, dog pound, front flip, jangalang, do a little dance, spit to the side, salute hand shake while Z was leaving and say "Hey man, see you in 30. Playoffs, baby!"

Z turned down offers from the Mavs, who are debatably the hotter team going into the playoffs (they've won 13 straight), and could have possibly offered him a starting role.

I am happy to have Z back in my life, but from here on out, let's give champagne to our real dudes, and real pain to the sham dudes.
