The most important event, though, is this Sunday when the rink first opens: Holiday CircleFest. Family and friends gather in University Circle, where over 20 local museums, gardens, galleries, churches, and schools will be open for free and are filled with activities for all ages.

Some of the participating institutions include the Museum of Natural History, Botanical Garden, Cleveland Playhouse, and Church of the Covenant. Select events consist of live reindeer, ornament-making, production of A Christmas Story, and cookie decorating.

When the sun sets, the day nears its end with the Winter Lights Lantern Festival on Wade Oval. Ronayne comments, "it is the perfect capstone to the day to see the parade of lights."

The rink will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. on opening day. During the season, from Dec. 7 to Feb. 16, regular skating hours will be limited to Friday and Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Visit www.universitycircle.org for a full list of activities and participating institutions.
