Spartan football kicks off season with big win

CWRU: 30 JCU: 13 Case Western Reserve University kicked off their season with a 30-13 win against John Carroll University. Playing in front their home crowd, the Spartans wasted no time as senior running back Billy Deitmen scored the first touchdown with an eight-yard run after a four-play, 41-yard drive.

Crew Team steers closer to boathouse

Paul Buchheit, Case Western Reserve University alumni rower, has teamed up with the Spartan Alumni Rowing Association to present a $100,000 donation to the Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF) in CWRU's name. The donation supports the Rivergate Project and will go toward building a permanent boathouse in Cleveland.

CWRU looks to dominate at JCU

Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team will face two opponents this weekend: Oberlin College and Grove City College. After going 1-1-0 and playing a two-overtime-scoreless match against Denison University in last week's tournament, the Spartans are looking for a sweep.

Volleyball starts hot, cools down

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team traveled to California last weekend and took the west coast by storm. The Spartans swept the opening games on Friday, dropping Chapman University 3-1, and beat hosts Pomona Pitzer College 3-2. Saturday found the Spartans playing the #1 and #2 seeds in the Pacific Coast Classic, Claremont M.

Spartan XC dominates 10th annual Bill Sudeck Classic

The Case Western Reserve University cross country teams hosted the 10th annual Bill Sudeck Classic on Saturday, Sept. 4th at Squire Valleevue Farm. The Spartan women placed first of six teams and the men were second of six. Case's women totaled 34 points on the 4K course and were followed by Baldwin-Wallace College - 61, Allegheny College (PA) - 69, John Carroll University - 77, Ursuline College - 151, and Notre Dame College (OH) - 158.

Niro Wimalasena is a junior captain on the men's soccer team. A centerback for the the team, Wimalasena hails from Mason, Ohio and is a chemical engineering major.
