          Top 10 Spartan stories of 2009-2010

          You could have guessed what some of these were going to be at the beginning of the year. Football was good, as usual. Cross country was good, as usual. Obinna Nwanna showed once again that he's a versatile, gifted athlete. But some of the items on this list would have been surprises.

          Spartans extend win streak to six

          "Offensively, we continue to get better. We've got talented kids," said Englander. "They work very hard every day to improve, not just to come in and do what we did before, but to take every day as an opportunity to get better, to improve your swing, improve approach at home plate, being able to see pitches, that type of thing. Their success is really coming from the work they put in."

          The next step

          Looking back at the top ten sports moments of the past year here at CWRU it continues to astonish me the amount of blood, sweat and tears that Spartan student athletes put into their sports. Working the past two years as a sports reporter and competing as a member of the swim team I've witnessed the work put in from a first hand perspective not just by the athletes but the coaches as well.

          It was a beautiful day for baseball at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians. Unfortunately, the Spartans had their six-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the No. 7 ranked College of Wooster on senior day. The College of Wooster scored 11 runs in the first four innings en route to defeating Case Western Reserve University by a score of 13-5 The Scots scored eight runs before the Spartans could get their first hit off of Wooster starter Justin McDowell.

          Spartans snap long losing streak

          The softball team finally snapped their 15-game losing streak on April 15. The Spartans dropped Oberlin College in the second game of a double header 11-3 in just five innings. The win improved the Spartans to 8-30 while Oberlin fell to 4-22 on the season.

          Spartan Spotlight: Obinna Nwanna

          Obinna Nwanna is a dual athlete, running decathlons for the men's track and field team, while running routes as wide receiver for his intramural flag football team. Nwanna, who hails from Maumee, Ohio, is majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Greg Meyer: What inspired you to run track? Obinna Nwanna: I needed something to do after school to keep me off the streets.

          Spartans are optimistic heading into UAA's

          Today marks the start of the University Athletic Assocation men's tennis tournament hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. The tournament lasts all weekend and hosts each of the eight UAA teams: Case Western Reserve University, Carnegie Mellon University, Emory University, University of Chicago, Brandeis University, University of Rochester, New York University, and Washington University.
