Issue date: 2/5/10 Section: USG Briefs
Tuesday's GA meeting began with Duwain Pinder thanking everyone for excellent attendance at the previous week's spring retreat and reminded the representatives about the upcoming SEC state of the university address.
Shengbo Wang, vice president of academic affairs, announced that Integrity Week was ongoing through today and that a forum on assignments over university breaks would be held today in Amasa Stone Chapel. The College of Arts and Sciences caucus hosted Donuts for Comments on Thursday in Thwing to gain student feedback on issues in the CAS.
The nursing caucus announced their action plan for the semester, including a "Life After Case" workshop with alumni from the School of Nursing.
Representatives from the Weatherhead caucus discussed potential dining and meal swipe options in the Peter B. Lewis building, and remarked that they have to meet with Bon Appétit to discuss options. The GA welcomed David Fleshler, the Associate Provost for International Affairs, as a guest speaker to the meeting. He spoke about the recent upswing in international students at CWRU and answered questions regarding study abroad options at CWRU.
Trevor Allen, chair of the Student Sustainability Council, also spoke at GA and announced the continuation of RecycleMania, as well as the ongoing Brita filter recycling program at Wade and Fribley. Joe Hersic was nominated for Taft House representative.
During open forum, an amendment to the USG constitution written by the freshman caucus was discussed. The amendment would allow freshmen representatives to run for offices that had been open for more than a semester. VP of information technology Schuyler Thompson was questioned by other representatives as to why the internet has recently been very slow and unreliable. He said that the central area for the internet had a problem, and that IT was working to fix it, and that it was most likely not due to an excess of illegal downloads. After several announcements, the meeting was adjourned.
