For the second consecutive weekend, the men's basketball team has come up winless in University Athletic Association play. The Spartans, who have extended their losing streak to four games, dropped decisions to Brandeis University and New York University with scores of 70-52 and 78-72, respectively.

Even with the return of starter Tom Summers, the Spartans struggled mightily against the Judges. After coming out and taking a five point lead very early in the game, the Judges shot the lights out with five three-pointers in a row. To complicate their defensive woes, CWRU continued to struggle with turnovers, committing nine in the first half. The Judges continued their strong shooting performance in the first half making 40 percent of their field goals, and 44 percent from behind the line, while the Spartans were only 33 percent the from the field and 12.5 percent from beyond the arc.

In the second half, CWRU began with a 33-22 deficit. Early during the second half, Case looked to turn their fortunes around coming within five points of the judges at the 17:38 and 15:26 marks, but could never get over the hump. The Judges finished the game on a 16-4 run in the last 6 1/2 minutes. Ultimately, the Judges beat the Spartans in the points off turnovers, scoring 18 points to CWRU's 8 and with bench production as their non-starters recorded 31 points while the Spartans reserves could only muster 5. Eric Duerr was the Spartans' leading scorer with 16, while Reid Anderson and Tom Summers added 12 and 10, respectively.

The second contest was a much more familiar affair. The Spartans played relatively well but just could not close the game. Only a minute and a half into the game the Spartans were leading 5-2 when the gym's fire alarm went off and the teams were forced to evacuate the building. After about a 20-minute delay, play resumed and the Spartans widened their lead to 18-11 at the 12 minute mark. However, NYU charged back to within two in less than three minutes. The Spartans didn't flinch, building another lead, 28-22, with 5 minutes, 4 seconds remaining in the half. The Violets then took control, ending the half on a 15-5 run.
